Ae sil Woo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Gettysburg College. Her research focuses on autocracies, collective dissent, institutional designs, and democratic erosion. Her recent work, forthcoming in International Political Science Review, investigates how seemingly trivial voting rules for amending constitutions shape the incentives for wannabe autocrats to contravene term limits among third-wave democratizers. Her work has been published in the Journal of Politics, APSA Annals of Comparative Democratization, and Political Science. She closely connects her research to her teaching, including the course How To Be an Autocrat, which explores political strategies that enable leaders to mitigate the risks of power consolidation. She received her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Merced and holds a B.A. in Economics and Mathematics.
