Cristóbal Bellolio is Associated Professor at the School of Government, Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (Chile). He holds a PhD. in Political Philosophy and a Master of Arts in Legal & Political Theory from University College London (UK), as well as degrees in Law and Political Science from Pontificia Universidad Católica (Chile). His research area is normative political theory, focusing in the liberal tradition and its relation to science, religion, populism, constitutional debates and Latin American politics. His work has been published in academic journals such as Politics, Res Publica, Social Epistemology, Philosophy of Education, Law & Philosophy, Educational Philosophy & Theory, International Journal of Public Opinion Research, Religions, International Journal of Latin American Religions, among others. He has taught versions of the Democratic Erosion course both at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez in Chile, and as Tinker Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago in the United States. Among his books for the wider public are La Era del Pesimismo Democrático (Debate 2024), El Momento Populista Chileno (Debate, 2022), Liberalismo. Una Cartografía (Taurus, 2020), Pinochet, Lagos & Nosotros: ensayos sobre la cuestión constituyente (Debate, 2015), Ateos fuera del Clóset (Debate, 2014), and Renovación & Reemplazo: por qué el recambio político es urgente en Chile (Ariel, 2013). Professor Bellolio is currently working in his four-year Chilean national grant on “The Climate Challenge to Liberal Democracy”.
