Unfortunately, with my schedule I could not attend a political event in person. This ok though because it made me discover that all the Memphis city council events are recorded and streamed live. They then are archived to be available to the public to view any time. As these are all public records, I had chosen the meeting taken place on Jan. 21, 2020. I have been to a few of these meetings in my life and let me tell you they are all pretty much the same. They are as you can imagine super thrilling with lots of excitement. Ok, maybe not exciting or thrilling but can be very informing in a way if you chose to pay attention and listen. Yes, they can be very boring and slow at times especially if nothing pertains to you as an individual or someone you know. Bu Maybe you should stop and listen and look past all this to see how our community is adapted and formed every day. What goes into something as simple as naming a street or approving a huge budget worth millions of dollars. The reason being is you can learn why a street was named the name it is whether just to have a name or to be put in place to honor someone that has done something in your community to make it the community you live in today. There was a lot of name changes in the beginning of this meeting yes it seems like a little thing but for the families there that are asking for this change you could see how much it means to them. Or like I said it be a major budget approval remember where most of the cities money comes from that is well you as a taxpayer and lets be honest no one likes paying taxes and if you are paying those hundreds or thousands of dollars wouldn’t you like to know where that money is going. I do not know of anything else I payed over $100 for and not checked on what it did so why do so many tax payers not pay attention to were it goes these are the meetings you need to watch or listen to in order too see where your money goes. Like I said yes, I know it is not the most exciting thing in the world, but it is with out a doubt a very important one in order to know where your hard-eared money goes.
